Customise your WordPress 3 install with the Point and Stare CMS plugin

When working on a new WordPress project one thing I always consider is making the admin area as easy as possible for the client to use.
As much as I hate to admit it, I used to manually rip bits out of the core (I was young/ impressionable/ it was many years ago … etc), causing big problems when the client decided to ask the question “what’ll happen if I click this upgrade link?”.
As time went on, my WordPress understanding grew and it soon became apparent that it was time to change the ugly manual process so I thought about creating a plugin that would include various snippets that would essentially strip out, change, adapt, hide as many elements as I wanted but at the same time being flexible enough to quickly adapt on a project by project basis.
I made a list of things I wanted to do then checked to see if there wasn’t something else already out there.
First stop, as usual, was the WordPress plugin repository – here I found various plugins that would do some of what I wanted, but I would need so many it would be crazy so instead I set about collecting various snippets that I could include for the task.
Over time this file has grown and now I have decided to upload it to GitHub published it on the official WordPress repository and open it up to the world to share and to improve.
So, what does the plugin do?
*** FIRST STEP, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACK-UP OF EVERYTHING ***
All you need to do is upload the pands-functions.php file to your mu-plugins folder – if you don’t have one, just create it – and it’ll be activated immediately. Obviously be aware that there could be conflicts so please install on a test install first.

The plugin has been tested on WordPress v3.3.1 and works perfectly.
In the plugin itself are many more functions like this so please feel free to download and use the Point and Stare CMS Functions plugin to make your clients’ heart content.
